The Neurotechnology laboratory at City University of Hong Kong develops implantable bioelectronics to interface with peripheral nerves. Our research is translational, aiming to restore lost function in conditions like spinal cord injury.
Research areas
Flexible bioelectronic design and fabrication
We design and fabricate thin, conformable neural interfaces from polymers such as parylene-C and PEDOT:PSS. They are built to match the mechanics of soft tissue, so they keep working reliably over long periods in the body.
Peripheral nerve electrophysiology
We record and stimulate peripheral nerves with high spatial resolution to decode physiological signals and modulate organ function. Our work covers acute preparations and freely moving animals.
Neural injury and disease models
We use preclinical models of spinal cord injury and peripheral nerve injury to study how the nervous system changes after damage. These models also let us test how implanted technologies can restore lost function.
Closed-loop neuromodulation
We combine real-time neural sensing with targeted stimulation to build systems that respond to the body's state. The goal is therapies that adapt to the patient rather than running on fixed settings.
